The iPhone is probably the easiest of all smart phones to operate. Users of all ages find the phone’s interface to be easy to use and learn, but there are some features that many seem to be unaware of. Some of these unknown features are simply cool tips and tricks that can make the iPhone more enjoyable while others are extremely useful. While these should hold true for every iPhone model, many of them do require the latest iOS 5.1 software.
1. Snap a Photo Using Headphones
Did you know that you can actually take a photo using the button on the Apple headphones? Now, taking pictures is easier than ever and can be done without having to bring your second hand up to press the button on the screen.
2. Siri is More Impressive Than Ever
Everyone has seen the newest iPhone commercials where Siri sets up important reminders and alarms. But, did you know that Siri can also set up location reminders? How many times have you been in a meeting or are leaving work and were supposed to call someone the second you were leaving? Well, you can actually tell Siri, “Remind me to call … when I leave work”, and Siri will notify you as soon as you have left that specific location.
3. Lost Phone? No Problem
Losing their phone is every iPhone user’s fear, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, there is a free app, Find My iPhone, that allows you to actually locate your iPhone on a map should you lose it. This can be used with any Apple product. However, you have to sign up for it before you lose your phone, otherwise you are out of luck.
4. Take a Screen Shot
Whether you want to take a snap of a certain website or anything else on your screen, the iPhone makes it easy to take quick screen shots. All you have to do is hold the home button and tap the sleep button. A white flash will show up on the screen. Afterwards, the picture will be available in your camera roll. It can then be sent in emails, text messages, or set as a background.
5. Faster Photos
We all know the frustrating feeling of wanting to capture a picture before whatever it is we want to take the picture of disappears. Locked phones can make this difficult, but the iPhone found a way around it. To take pictures while your phone is locked, simply tap the home button twice and click on the camera icon that appears. You can even use the volume up button to take the picture or pinch the screen to zoom in.
6. Keep Your iPhone in Tip Top Shape
Has your service started to worsen? Is your battery dying faster? Do you notice it takes longer for applications to open? This could be because you haven’t cleaned up your phone in a while. A lot of people don’t realize that every application they open stays open. Unless you manually close out an application, it remains running in the background. To close these applications out, tap the home screen twice until a row of applications pops up at the bottom. Then, press and hold an icon until it begins to shimmy. You can now exit each application one by one. This should be done on a routine basis.
7. Make Your Own App
Do you have a website you frequently visit that doesn’t have its own application? You can now make your own. All you have to do is visit a webpage using the Safari application. Then, use the Go To icon and select ‘Add to Home Screen’. An app icon will then appear on your home page, which will allow you instant access.
